The Secret Service cannot cover every sight line within 1000m and it only takes one round to do the deed. And that's just the sniper threat; it doesn't even begin to cover the walk-up gunman such as Hinckley, who shot Pres. Reagan, or the suicide bomber or roadside, remote-detonated car bomb. Living with a certain amount of fear of assassination is one of the costs of being President. Given the nature - and stupidity - of most of his bloodier-minded enemies, I don't think he's under that much additional <i>creditable</i> threat than any other President. The FBI and the Secret Service are going to be busier than usual though. If someone really wants to Obama out, they will.
